“Painting the kitchen” means three different things, and they are priced nothing like each other.
Walls and ceiling
The cheapest of the three and usually the quickest. What adds time is the cutting-in — around cabinets, appliances, backsplash and window trim, a kitchen has far more edges per square foot than a bedroom.
Grease is the difference
Kitchen walls carry a film of cooking residue that nothing will bond to. Degreasing comes before sanding, and skipping it is the single most common reason a kitchen repaint peels.
Cabinets are a separate job
Doors come off, get labelled, cleaned, sanded, primed and sprayed or brushed, then go back. It is several days and it is priced by the door, not by the room.
The order matters
If cabinets and walls are both being done, cabinets go first. Otherwise fresh wall paint gets sanded and oversprayed while the doors are being finished.
What we ask before quoting
How the kitchen is used. A kitchen cooked in every day and a kitchen used for toast wear at completely different rates, and that changes which product goes on.
