Deck Construction in Woodstock, GA

Wood deck construction in Woodstock, GA. New decks built for how the space will actually be used, and finished to survive Georgia weather.

New wood decks for Woodstock homes, built around how the space will actually be used rather than how big it can be.

The most common mistake with a new deck is sizing it to the yard instead of to the furniture. A deck that cannot fit a table with chairs pulled out, or a grill with somewhere to stand beside it, gets used twice a year. Before anything else, we work out what is going to live on it.

The second thing worth deciding early is sun. A west-facing deck in Georgia is unusable from mid-afternoon through summer unless something shades it. Which direction it faces changes where you want it, how big it should be, and what finish will last on it.

Before we quote

Deck construction is permitted work in Cherokee County, and setback and height rules apply. We will raise anything that affects your project at the estimate rather than after the posts are in. If your neighbourhood has an HOA with a say over exterior structures, that is worth checking before we start.

How it runs

  1. 01

    Site visit

We look at the ground, the access, the sun and the door the deck comes off.

  2. 02

    Design and estimate

Size, layout, materials and cost in writing.

  3. 03

    Build

Frame first, then the surface, then the rails and steps.

  4. 04

    Finish

Cleaned and stained once the wood is ready to take a coat.

Common questions

How soon can a new deck be stained?

Not immediately. Fresh pressure-treated lumber holds a lot of moisture, and a coating applied too early will not penetrate and will fail early. The wood needs to dry out first — the bead test tells you when it is ready.

How long does a deck take to build?

Most residential decks are a matter of days rather than weeks once work starts. Size, height off the ground and the number of stair runs are what move the number.

Do you replace old decks as well as build new?

Yes. Where the frame has gone, a rebuild is often the sensible answer — see deck repair if you are not sure which you need.
