A garage is usually the last room anyone paints and the one that changes most when they do.
Walls and ceiling
Often bare drywall or unpainted block. Both drink the first coat, so a primer here is not optional — without it you will be putting on three coats instead of two.
Semi-gloss on the walls, because a garage wall gets knocked, brushed past and cleaned more than any wall in the house.
The floor is different
Concrete needs etching or grinding before anything will hold, and it must be genuinely dry — a slab that looks dry can still be pushing moisture up through it. Tape a square of plastic down overnight; if there is condensation underneath in the morning, the floor is not ready.
Why floor coatings fail
Almost always because the concrete was sealed, damp, or not etched. Hot tyres then lift the coating in patches, which is the failure everybody has seen in somebody’s garage.
Order
Ceiling, walls, then floor. And the floor wants a few days of cure before a car goes back on it, which is the part people find hardest.
