When to repaint a house in Georgia is a question with four different answers, one for each side of the building.
Sun breaks a coating down from above while moisture pushes it off from behind. South and west walls get most of both, so they reach the end first — often years before the north side needs anything.
Signs that mean now
Chalking: run a hand down the wall and it comes back dusty. That is the binder breaking down, and anything painted over it is bonded to powder rather than to the surface.
Hairline cracking across a flat area, paint lifting at trim ends, or bare timber showing anywhere. Bare timber is the one that changes urgency — once water is in the wood, the repair grows every season it waits.
Signs that can wait
Colour that has gone flat but is intact. Dirt and mildew, which wash off. Isolated marks near a downspout, which usually mean the gutter needs attention rather than the wall.
Roughly how often
On newer fibre cement or vinyl, ten years is common and the failure is cosmetic. On older timber, five to seven, and the failure is at the joints and trim ends rather than across the boards.
